BIO
Boldly redefining the boundaries of New Zealand music for the past 2 years
The West Coast Bullies are known for their technical command of samples
and instruments, their rhythmic approach to improvisation and composition,
and their work in contemporary ignorant music theory.
The West Coast Bullies have created a unique musical system; with its own
classifications and graphics-based language that embraces a variety of
traditions and genres while defying categorization of its own.
West coast Bullies are breaking new ground in two particular ways: first,
in their native country they have fused popular and vernacular styles with
contemporary textural techniques.
Their EP ‘Sluhm-Guhl-Yuhn’ (2013) uses
popular music forms deconstructing Footwork, Jazz, Drill and Bop with new
music resources creating a true hybrid genre. Second, working with new
extended techniques for electronic instruments they’ve created a unique way
of performing their brand of electronic music live fusing the digital with the
acoustic.
